Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment in the construction sector – actual application and future outlook

The construction industry is responsible for positive and negative values in society, economy environment. Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) as framework considered to provide a valuable support decision makers, by extending the scope of known (LCA). At present, number published LCSA studies sector comparatively small. To foster partnership between sector, an understanding backgrounds options application this necessary. A survey conducted via online questionnaire ask defined target groups (LCSA-experts, students, practitioners) about their use interpretation LCSA. results show that implementation all three pillars (LCA, LCC, S-LCA) defining appropriate indicators difficult even LCSA-experts. 94% today’s makers name especially LCA important relevant sector. Nevertheless, it became clear LCAs already implemented practical were only because request customer. Future maker (today’s students) more seminars lectures cross-thematic (interdisciplinary) exercises are questioned.
